Jim Schulz grew up in a minister's home and knew from a very early age that he would one day be in the ministry himself. In 1966, he met Linda Coovert at Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Muncie, Indiana while visiting during the summer before his senior year of Bible College. They were married the following year; August, 1967 (a year filled with MANY letters and phone calls). They pastored in Punta Gorda, Florida for two years following their marriage, at which time the Lord led them into Alaskan missions.

The Schulzes have two daughters, Kimberly and Stacia, who have grown up in Alaska. Kim graduated from the University of Alaska with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Public Relations and lives with her husband and their sons in Alaska. Stacia graduated from Saint Louis University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Technology and lives with her husband and their sons in Missouri.
