Ministering those living in remote Western Alaska

God used the Schulzes to begin this village ministry in 1996. Camp A.N. is a powerful evangelism tool reaching the children, teens, and families of Alaska’s West Coast villages.

Camp Agaiutim Nune

hundreds have found Christ as their Savior

Through this ministry, hundreds have found Christ as their Savior, scores have received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, and many have been called into ministry. The Camp is located in the Yukon Delta area of Western Alaska reaching numerous surrounding villages.

“The Place of God,” as the name would be translated from its Yupik Eskimo origin was the name chosen by Sonny Joseph, A Yupik Eskimo pastor. Sonny pastored the Yupik Assembly of God in Alakanuk, Alaska until his death in 1997. God miraculously provided the property for the camp. Eight acres were donated for missions to use. Plans were made for approximately 30 to 40 kids and teens for the first year. The Holy Spirit had other plans and 61 kids and teens attended from nine villages in 1996. Since then, Camp A.N. has continued to grow. God, through the Holy Spirit, moves mightily in the lives of these young people as they “come apart” to fellowship, learn, and worship God.

The camp is remote, located 17 river miles from the nearest village of Emmonak. In the beginning, the entire camp was housed in tents with a large tent (1,200 square feet) housing the kitchen and a larger tent housing the dining and chapel area. Four 35-foot tents served and still serve as dorm tents for the campers and four smaller ones for the staff except for dorm monitors. Dorm monitors sleep in the dorms with the campers. In 2015 the camp was able to build the “Tabernacle”, housing the worship auditorium, kitchen, nurses’ quarters, and dining hall. Two permanent shower houses were constructed with multiple shower stalls in each, and two outhouses with multiple stalls (toilet facilities) were constructed. Another permanent structure has been built to house staff.

The most popular spot each year is the swimming area. Those brave enough to enjoy it swim in the Akularak River (a branch of the Yukon River in the Delta area). They are true Alaskans, enduring the water temperature of approximately 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Other recreational facilities have been added throughout the 25 years since the establishment of Camp Agaiutim Nune. A great thanks to the churches and individuals who help make this possible. Each year, workers from all over the United States come to make Camp Agaiutim Nune happen. The hand of God moves as He provides cohesive teams that work together to provide everything needed to minister to those who come. The services are always marked by the presence of the Holy Spirit. Campers receive Christ, are filled with the Holy Spirit, and some respond to God’s call on their lives for ministry. Alaska has even seen workers called to Alaska to minister through their experience at Camp A.N.
